The following accidents were reported by the Vernon County Sheriff’s Department for the week ending Dec. 4.

11-27 William Pelkey, Sparta, was traveling north on Hwy. 131, town of Whitestown. Pelkey was approaching the intersection of Hwy. 131/Heisel Road when he swerved to avoid striking a deer. The vehicle went through the intersection, and struck a stop sign, guardrail and arrow sign. Pelkey was not injured and reported the accident the next day.

11-27 Jerome Hanson, Viola, reported his vehicle was hit while parked in the Liberty Bar parking lot, town of Liberty. This case remains under investigation.

11-28 Arlean Knight, Westby, was traveling east on Hwy. 14, town of Franklin, and observed deer crossing the roadway. Knight swerved to avoid striking the deer. The vehicle struck the end of the guardrail at the intersection of Green Acres Road. The vehicle came to rest in the ditch. No injuries occurred.

12-3 James Buros, Viola, was driving a 5-axle bulk milk truck northbound on Hwy. O, town of Harmony. The right front corner of the truck struck a cow owned by Kevin Parr. The impact forced the truck into a right turn, and the truck proceeded off the road into the ditch. The truck slid across a hayfield. The stainless steel 5,800 bulk milk tank was loaded with approximately 3,500 pounds of milk. The milk was compromised. No injuries were sustained. The cow did not survive.

12-4 There were 10 reportable car/deer crashes: Daniel Eick, Soldiers Grove, on Hwy. 27, town of Franklin; Kimberly Pufahl, Mauston, on Hwy. 33, town of Hillsboro; Paul Krause, Ontario, on Hwy. 14, town of Franklin; Anna Cousineau, Viola, on Hwy. 56, town of Liberty; Shea Bounds, Coon Valley, on Hwy. 14, town of Christiana; Ronald Stetzer, La Crosse, on Hwy. 14, town of Viroqua; Margaret Davidson, Soldiers Grove, on Hwy. 14, town of Coon; Lori Egge, Westby, on Hwy. P, town of Clinton; Brian Lincoln, Seaside, California, on Hwy. 35, town of Wheatland; Paul Kabat, Westby, on Hwy. 14, town of Coon.
