A Wisconsin state board is seeking advocates for nursing home residents in long-term care, recruiting especially volunteer ombudsmen in Vernon and surrounding counties.
Volunteers will be screened, trained and assigned to a nursing home in their community, under the direction of Jenny Knudson, volunteer ombudsman coordinator for La Crosse, Adams, Crawford, Grant, Jackson, Juneau, Monroe, Richland and Vernon counties.
The Wisconsin Board on Aging and Long Term Care is seeking the volunteers, with the main criterion being a desire to make a difference in the lives of residents receiving long-term care.
For information and to volunteer, call Knudson at 608-789-6366 or 800-815-0015.
The volunteer opportunity list appears in the first edition of each month, generally in Section A.
The list includes the name of a service organization, its location, when it meets and a contact name and number.
Other special information is also listed, such as seasonal events.
The next deadline is Friday, Oct. 27, at noon.
Information can be dropped off or sent to News Editor Angela Cina at 124 W. Court St., P.O. Box 472, Viroqua, WI 54665. Information can also be emailed to email@example.com.
