The Viroqua boys basketball team made the two-plus hour trek north to Stratford Tuesday, February 27, for a Division 3 WIAA sub-regional playoff game and were defeated by the host Tigers 77-35. The No. 6 seeded Tigers (19-4 and 12-4 Marawood Conference) bolted to a 46-17 halftime advantage and the No. 12 seeded Blackhawks never really threatened after intermission.

Twelve different Stratford players hit the scoring column, including three in double figures, while hitting 70 percent of their two-point field goal attempts 28/41. The Tigers also connected on 5-of-21 three-point tries, grabbed 34 rebounds in the contest, dished out 18 assists, blocked six Viroqua shots and stole the ball nine times.

The Blackhawks (3-19 and 2-10 Coulee Conference) were led by senior Steve Diehl with 10 points on five field goals, followed by Brett Skrede and Anthony Rappl with seven, Sam Jett, Christian Schneider and Ben Tunks each connected for a three-point field goal and Andrew Wedwick chipped in with a two-point field goal.
