The La Crosse Logan/Central co-op boys hockey team handed the Viroqua co-op (Viroqua, Westby, Cashton and Youth Initiative high schools) team an 11-0 defeat Tuesday, Jan. 9, in a game played at the Green Island Ice Arena in La Crosse.

Carter Bergdahl faced 60 shots in net for the Blackhawks, turning away 49, giving the Westby High School senior 529 saves this season against 597 shots.

Andrew Kjos led the Red-Rangers, scoring three goals and adding two assists, while Jake Ziegelbein chipped in with two goals and three assists. Will Bryant and Ben Fowler rounded out the scoring for the Red-Rangers each with a goal and an assist.

Viroqua vs. BRF

The Blackhawks took a 1-0 lead over Black River Falls into the second period, but the Tigers roared back scoring five goals in the middle period and added two more in the third, defeating the Viroqua co-op team 7-1 in a game played at the Viroqua Community Arena, Friday, Jan. 12.

Viroqua junior forward Nathan Turnipseed accounted for the Blackhawks’ only score on an un-assisted goal coming 11:12 into the opening period.

Ryan Engebretson scored the first of his three goals in the game on a power play just 1:20 into the second period and the Tigers never looked back, improving their season record to 9-7. Viroqua’s season record slipped to 3-10-1, with their second loss of the year to BRF. Both teams play an independent schedule.

Bergdahl recorded 43 saves in the contest, while the Tigers’ goalie Lance Muir stopped 15 of 16 Viroqua shot attempts.

The Blackhawks played host to Madison La Follette Jan. 15, before hitting the road for games at De Forest Jan. 20 and Sparta Jan. 25.
