The familiar pattern of slow starts continued for the Viroqua girls basketball team last week in a 74-31 home court loss to the Gale-Ettrick-Trempealeau Red Hawks, Tuesday, Dec. 12.
“This was another tough game right out of the gates,” said coach Joe Willis. “Early turnovers and the inability to get into our half-court offense put us in a 19-1 hole to start the game. G-E-T did a nice job of challenging our ball-handlers and they forced early turnovers against us. We were never able to climb back into the game, despite some pretty good first half defense.”
G-E-T was red-hot from the field, shooting 51 percent from the field, and were especially deadly from distance connecting on 14 of 24 shots from beyond the arc, for a blistering 58 percent.
Claire Anderson led the Blackhawk offense with 11 points, followed by Madelyn Anderson with 8 and Natalie Waldenberger pulled down 6 rebounds.
