VIROQUA — Harlan G. Rude, 96, of Viroqua passed away peacefully Friday, June 30, 2017, at the Bethel Home in Viroqua, surrounded by his loving family.
He was born Sept. 24, 1920, in Viroqua, to Gerhard and Hilma (Lunde) Rude. He graduated from Viroqua High School as salutatorian in 1939. He served in the Navy during the Pacific Theater in World War II. On May 22, 1945, he married Gloria Lavold in Viroqua. They farmed their entire lives on Three Chimney Road until Harlan retired. They raised tobacco and had dairy cattle. They had two children and enjoyed 72 years of marriage. He will be greatly missed by all of his family and friends.
Harlan is survived by his wife, Gloria; two daughters, Debra Miles of Rice, Minn., Teresa Hintermeyer (Bruce) of Eagan, Minn.; one grandson, Ryan Hintermeyer; one sister-in-law, Marilyn Berge; and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Roy; three sisters, Verna Gilbertson, Inez Leum, and Irma Engh; and an infant son, Richard.
Harlan was a member of Viroqua Eagles Aerie #2707, Westby American Legion Post No. 155, and Viroqua VFW Post No. 3032.

Funeral services was held at 1 p.m. Thursday, July 6, at the Thorson Funeral Home in Viroqua, with Pastor Dan Wollman officiating. Family and friends called from 11 a.m. until the time of service at the funeral home. Burial took place in the Westby Coon Prairie Cemetery with military honors provided by American Legion Post No. 155, VFW Post 3032 and the U.S. Navy Honors Team.
