There will be a new sound on Sunday mornings at Westby Coon Prairie Lutheran Church.
Beginning Sept. 8, Westby Coon Prairie will hold a traditional 8 a.m. worship service and a new contemporary worship service at 9:30 a.m.
The traditional worship service will include hymns and music presently included in the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America’s Hymnal, the ELW.
The comtemporary worship service will offer music that will quickly become familiar favorites, with the music led by the Westby Coon Prairie worship band, “Imposition of Ashes.”
The band’s name was derived when the group first formed on Ash Wednesday, during the Season of Lent with the Imposition of Ashes.
Band members include: Peter Engh, Monte Dunnum, Kory Dahlen, and Brady Wemette. Ohter area musicians will be joining the band for special performances.
During the contempory service, a screen and projection system will be provided allowing parishioners the option to forego a paper bulletin to worship without holding a hymnal in their hands, with all words, lyrics, and images visible on the screen.
The development of a contemporary worship service on Sunday mornings had been discussed for many years at Westby Coon Prairie Lutheran Church, but like so many things in life it kept getting pushed to the back burner.
Now, guided by God’s Spirit, it is a great blessing for the parish to be able to celebrate the start of something new with the community.
Everyone is welcome to stop by and enjoy the new contemorary worship service beginning on Sunday, Sept. 8, at 9:30 a.m.
The church is located on Main Street in Westby.
