At the Coon Valley Lions Club meeting earlier this month, two new members were inducted into the organization, Pat Abt and Fred Giese.

The new members were inducted by Past District Governor Cedric Veum. John Spears sponsored Pat Abt and Fred Giese was sponsored by Ron Hoff. Both new members will be joining in Lions Club projects and activities all of which exemplify the motto, “We Serve”.

Giese will help serve the Lions Eye Bank of Wisconsin as a transporter of donated eye tissue from La Crosse to Tomah. Once it arrives in Tomah, other Lions in the relay system deliver the eye tissue to the Lions Eye Bank in Madison. The eye tissue is tested and processed for corneal transplantation to a recipients within the state, country or worldwide.

The Coon Valley Lions are one of nine La Crosse Area Lions clubs that take turns transporting the eye tissue. The Coon Valley Lions will transport during the months of February and November.

Both new members plan to be a part of the Coon Valley Lions ‘Annual Projects Fund Raffle’ scheduled for Feb. 17. This event is the largest fund raiser for the club with profits used to help support the Westby Area Robotics Team, scholarships for graduating seniors, the Vernon County Food Pantry as well as numerous other enhancements to the Coon Valley area.

Other information concerning the Coon Valley Lions Club is available on its website and on Facebook by just searching for “Coon Valley Lions Club”.
