The Monroe County Sheriff’s Department reported a two-vehicle accident on Tuesday, Dec. 5, at approximately 4 p.m., on Hwy. 27, near Sparta.

Carrie Flock, age 48, of rural Sparta, was driving south on Hwy. 27 when she slowed to make a right turn into a driveway near Jackrabbit Ave. While making the right turn her vehicle was struck from behind by a white Dodge van. The driver of the van fled the scene heading south on Hwy. 27.

A DNR warden observed the van traveling at a high rate of speed from the area of the accident scene and pursued the vehicle south on Hwy. 27 and onto Hwy. XX in the town of Wells. The van driver, Josue Vicente, age 36 of Cashton, stopped his vehicle just south of Kansas Ave. where he was taken into custody.

No one was injured in the crash or ensuing pursuit.

Vicente was issued citations for OWI (2nd offense), failure to report an accident, operating after revocation, hit and run, and fleeing the scene of an accident.

The crash remains under investigation by the Monroe County Sheriff’s Department.

The Monroe County Sheriff’s Department reported a single-vehicle accident resulted in property damage on Saturday, Dec. 2, at approximately 3 a.m., on Hwy. 33, near Optic Road in the town of Sheldon. When officers arrived they found the highway guard rail had been damaged extensively and the driver had fled the scene in the vehicle.

Following an investigation, the driver, Thomas Ray Peterson, age 19 of rural Ontario, was later located. Peterson told officers that he fell asleep and hit the guard rail, but was not injured in the crash.

Alcohol is believed to be a factor.

The crash remains under investigation by the Monroe County Sheriff’s Department.

Mark Sherry, age 66 of Soldiers Grove, was arrested on Monday, Dec. 4, at approximately 4 p.m., by the Wisconsin State Patrol for operating a motor vehicle under the influence, 5th offense.

A Wisconsin State Patrol Trooper stopped a vehicle in the village of Soldiers Grove for illegal window tint and at which time an odor of intoxicant was also observed. Sherry then failed the standard field sobriety tests and was arrested.

The case remains under investigation by law enforcement.
