On Tuesday, Oct. 31, plenty of ghosts, goblins, super heroes and princesses braved the cold and had a ghastly good time in Westby.

The Westby Chamber organized a business trick or treating event on Halloween from 3:30-5 p.m. Many downtown businesses participated, while others set up special stations downtown to accommodate parents and children.

Norseland Nursing Home also joined the fun with residents lined up outside their rooms holding pails of candy waiting for children to show off their costumes on Halloween. The smiles on resident’s faces were genuine as they greeted the children with happy hearts.

Resident Verna Hankee, age 99, said it best as she thanked the kids for stopping by Norseland, gave them hugs, told them she loved Halloween and said she never wanted to grow old.

Her happy demeanor was contagious and with a spirit like that, my guess is, Verna never will grow old at heart!
