When you mention Westby Syttende Mai Festival one of the main attractions for visitors is the food. This year there are few changes to the food vendor locations to co-inside with the 50th Anniversary event.
The 2018 Kick-off Breakfast will be at the Old Towne Inn on the south end of Westby on Friday, May 18. Susie and the gang will be serving a buffet style breakfast, with entertainment and radio personalities.
The festival and food vendors will be spread out more than usual too. Street food vendors will also be located along the 200 block of Main Street. A few vendors will also be located by the craft tent, which is being relocated to the green area by Vernon Communications (weather permitting).
The Westby Music Parents will be in their normal warm spot in a garage on Market Street, along with the Our savior’s Youth Food Tent and all the kid activities, kiddie tractor pull, car show and rommegrot eating contest.
Bertha Johnson and Peter Leum’s famous rommegrot will be served in the Westby Community Center, along with a smorgasbord of Norwegian Sandwiches and treats, including strull, krumkake and sandbakkles, all served by the Coulee Region Rosemalers at the same location.
Baking Demonstrations and free samples of Norwegian lefse and flat bread will be available in the Heritage Center. The Heritage Center was formerly a large tent set up in the parking lot by Bekkum Memorial Library, but has been relocated across the street to the Westby VFW building on North Main Street.
Food will also be served at the Antique Tractor Pull on Saturday. May 19 near the Westby-Christiana Fire Station.
Danika Wehling, Food Vendor Committee Chair, said more food treasures can be found at the Royalty Pancake Supper (Thursday, May 17), Westby Locker Brat Cookout (Friday, May 18), Old Time Music Show (Friday, May 18), IMPACT Chicken Q (Friday, May 18), Frokost Breakfast (Saturday.
