The 10th Annual Rails to Trails Marathon will be held Sunday, Oct. 8, at the Norwalk Village Park. and full marathon runners can qualify for the Boston Marathon. The race is run on the Elroy – Sparta Bike Trail, which goes thru a tunnel. The race was changed from November to October due to bats that hibernate in the tunnel.
The last nine years money raised from the event has been dedicated back to the community of Norwalk. Projects have included, flower baskets on Main Street; three $1000 scholarships to graduates from Brookwood High School; new equipment for fire department; lights for ballpark; playground equipment in he village’s two parks; and money toward the Norwalk Library addition.
This is our 10th year, so organizers are hoping for a great weather and that past runners from all parts of the country join the fun. The group is still in need of volunteers to help with the event on Saturday or Sunday and fans to cheer on competitors Oct. 8. Homemade bars or cookies will also be needed both days.
