Stan and Lori Hemmersbach of Westby were recently honored by Foremost Farms USAO for producing quality milk during the calendar year 2006 with a Superior Award. The co-operative presented two levels of achievement to producers throughout Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Michigan, Minnesota, Ohio and Wisconsin. Superior Quality Awards were presented to only 23 producers.

“Across the Fence” and “Down Country Roads” by Howard Sherpe will be the program offered at Norskedalen on Sunday., Nov. 4, at 2:00 p.m. He will discuss his newspaper column and books.

The Westby Senior Citizens organization nominating committee, Mae Jacobson, Verna Berg and Erma Graupe, will have nominations for treasurer and trustee at the next meeting.

Norse sophomore Janet Mangus ran to the individual title at the WIAA Division 2 Cross Country Sectional at Black River Falls October 24, earning her second trip to the state meet.

Bonnie Peterson, Mark Lindvig, Nancy Miller and Debra Benson each scored a perfect “10” on their biology quiz during last week’s Open House at the Westby Area Schools.

Thursday, October 29, at midnight, electricity in Westby will go off period, and will not be back on again until Friday morning at 6:00 a.m. During this six hour outage Northern States Power will be installing a new, larger transmission line between Sparta and Viroqua which Westby will tie into.

Open house was held, Wednesday, October 25, at Westby Farmers Union Co-op’s new Soil Service Center that will be managed by Ron Iverson. The building is entirely wood frame and the exterior is finished with painted plywood, giving it a very smooth appearance.

The Westby Norsemen finished the football season undefeated as they trampled the De Soto Pirates last Friday evening by the score of 38 – 2. Bruce Larson scored the first touchdown from the 35 yard line on an end run.

Mr. and Mrs. Wilmer Homstad were honored on their silver wedding anniversary at an Open House held Sunday at their home. Betty Shreve and Wilmer Homstad were married October 31, 1942, in the Hillsboro Congregational Church.

During the past week Professor Einar Haugen, head of the department of Scandinavian at the University of Wisconsin, has been gathering material on the Norwegian dialects of Westby and surrounding.

Mr. and Mrs. Paul Stefferud and Beverly and Christine visited Sunday afternoon at the Peder Jothen home.

Lorraine Haakenson, Irene and Margaret Stalsberg, Phyllis Aas, Mr. and Mrs. Clarence Brendum and Lois, Mr. and Mrs. Blaine Buros helped Clarice Bergh celebrate her fourteenth birthday on Sunday.

Mrs. Adolph Nottestad and Mrs. Ole Anderson will entertain the Ladies Aid in the church hall at Newry on Friday, November 6. Everybody welcome.
