Westby City Council members voted by majority to hire Mary Holte, as the new city clerk treasurer, replacing Sarah Lester who resigned from the position. Holte, a Westby native, will begin her duties with the city of Westby on October 8.
Years of conditioning and 20 weeks of strenuous training paid off for Westby businessman and city resident Phi Strand after he completed his first Iron Man competition on August 26th, finishing the race in 13 hours, 47 minutes and 50 seconds.
Through 24 years of coaching the Westby freshmen football team, Mark Anderson, principal at Westby and Coon Valley elementary schools, has coached many players and their sons. He is also one part of three generations of Andersons, including his dad, Arnie, and son, Nick, who is playing his first year of Westby football, who have worn the Norse grid uniform.

Bertha Goplin took the mini bus to La Crosse a week ago last Tuesday to have her eyes examined at Dr. Culvers. She also did some shopping.
Westby’s first girls golf team played in a “scramble” Sept. 10 with Viroqua. The historic team is under the direction of Cindy Langaard. Girls on the historic team are: Ali Knapp, Katie Silha, Kris Ottum, Amber Peterson, Rachel Anderson, Dawn Engh, Rhonda Mathison, Danielle Evenson, Christy Clark, Chrissy Knapp, Jenna Skrede, Tonya Laske, KimOium and Lisa Berger.
At a recent Junior Symposium of Humanities and Science, Westby High School Junior Ali Knapp’s presentation about iron bacteria in water supplies has merited her a trip to a national symposium at Fort Monroe, Va., in May of 1993.

Du Wayne Stendahl was named “Player of the Week’ in the Wisconsin State University Conference last Wednesday for his performance in the Indians 24 – 6 victory over Platteville the previous weekend. Stendahl, who graduated from Westby High School, is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Noble Stendahl.
The Senior Choir of Our Savior’s Lutheran Church recently elected officers for 1967-1968. They are: President, Miss Elaine Bakken; Vice President, Miss Jann Nelson; Secretary, Mrs. Walter Larson; and Treasurer, Miss Lory Knutson.
Westby High School’s Homecoming Queen will be elected by the student body and her name will be announced at the Pep Rally on Thursday, October 19. Candidates are: Ruby Stromstad, Lynn Jaeger, Cheryl Burns and Eileen Vold.

I deem it appropriate and urgently request that all business places in the city of Westby close for the duration of the Homecoming game between Westby and Viroqua – from 2 o’clock until 4 o’clock p.m. on Friday, October 9, 1942. J. T. Hage, Mayor
Erling Hovde of Westby was today commissioned a second lieutenant in the army of the United States and immediately placed on active duty . Lt. Hovde, well-known to Westby for his ability as a ski jumper, made a commendable record as a student and finished high in the list of graduates.
As a blue ribbon winner we believe that Mrs. Stanley Sebion must be given first place. For the twentieth consecutive year she was awarded the first prize on her coxcomb flowers exhibited at the Vernon County Fair this fall.
