Sunday evening, Dec. 16, Westby Coon Prairie Lutheran Church held its Sunday School Christmas pageant. More than 60 children were showcased in “No Room at the Inn,” a play about the Christmas story. The program was produced by Angie Nemes, Kala Green and Peggy Fortune along with the education committee and many helping parents.
On Jan. 11, 2008, anyone who played boys basketball in the Westby School System is invited back to an all-year alumni basketball reunion after the Westby-Viroqua game in the field house, Ry Hagen, who graduated from Westby High School in 1938, plans to attend.
People were abuzz Monday, Dec. 17, for the chance to meet former Green Bay Packer LeRoy Butler for a book signing at WCCU Credit Union in Westby. Butler, a 1997 Super Bowl Champion, played for the Packers from 1990 to 2001.

Truman Unseth, Jennings Bjornstad and Roger Pratt were some of the people who helped move equipment from city hall to the old Credit Union building at 200 North Main Thursday.
Kindergarteners were asked whom they would like to buy a present for. Danny Gerling said his dad, Nick, needed tools – $20 would cover it. His mom would like blue sweats and $10 would buy that!
The Westby Rod and Gun Club has been honored with the Vernon County Conservation Committee’s Group Wildlife Habitat Development Award. To date, the club has stocked over 300,000 trout and continues to raise about 8,200 brown and rainbow annually.

Westby’s Bill Terry, one of the most successful prep football coaches in the Coulee Region, will join the La Crosse State University staff as freshman football and assistant baseball coach.
Carole Oinonen and Alan Rudrud, from Westby, will perform with the La Crosse State University “Marching Chiefs” band which will perform at the Packer-Cowboy National Football League’s championship game Sunday in Green Bay.
Mr. and Mrs. Charlie Johnson received a telephone call from Hawaii on Christmas Day from their daughter Catherine, and son-in-law, LTC David P. McDuffie, stationed at Headquarters, United States Army.

From Great Lakes, Ill., comes a dispatch that Roland Otto Hagen, 21, son of Mr. and Mrs. Rueben Hagen, Westby, was graduated December 23 from the hospital corps school at the U. S. naval hospital there.
Miss Bernice Bakke, daughter of Mrs. Anna Bakke of Westby, left for South Hadley, Mass., on December 21, where she entered officers’ training in the WAVES, women’s branch of the U. S. Navy, at Mount Holyoke College.
Mrs. Arthur Eklov and infant son returned to their home from a La Crosse hospital on last Wednesday.
Mr. and Mrs. C. C. Olson and children and Mr. and Mrs. Harvey Lund spent the weekend with home folks at Rake, Iowa.
