On May 1, the town of Coon board will officially change the name of Spring Coulee Ridge Road to Jore Road, an old Norwegian family name.

Over the years there have been safety concerns due to the close proximity of Spring Coulee Ridge Road to Spring Coulee Road. Emergency personnel and dispatchers have at times experienced confusion especially off Co. P from Coon Valley.

Town of Coon resident, Garland McGarvey collected a list of names from the residents living on Spring Coulee Ridge Road. He used a list of road names in Vernon County to narrow the choices, and Jore Road was the final selection. The main concern of residents residing on Spring Coulee Ridge Road was to choose a new name that was short and unique.

The road sign will officially be changed on May 1. In addition to road signs there are 11 emergency numbers that will need to be replaced.

According to Orlan Bakkum, the town of Coon board chairman, replacing emergency numbers today is completed using GPS coordinates,  a change from years gone by when numbers were designated  using the odometer on a vehicle for measurements.
