The Vernon County Sheriff Department reported a two-vehicle crash, with injuries, at 3:03 p.m., on Friday, Sept. 8, in the town of Coon.

The Vernon County Dispatch Center received multiple 911 calls regarding a two-vehicle crash at the intersection of Hwy. 14/61 and Cut-A-Cross Rd in the town of Coon.

A vehicle driven by Heaven M. Saunders, age 17, of Chaseburg, was traveling south on Cut-A-Cross Rd.

Saunders turned west onto Hwy. 14/61 into the path of an eastbound pickup truck pulling a 34- foot horse trailer, operated by Paul H. Dietz, age 54, from Faribault, Minnesota.

Dietz attempted to avoid colliding with Saunder’s vehicle, but struck the rear driver’s side of Saunders’ car. The Dietz truck and trailer jack-knifed and traveled into the west ditch, causing the truck to overturn and come detached from the trailer. The trailer also overturned onto its side.

Saunders was transported by Tri-State Ambulance to Gundersen Health Systems in La Crosse with non-life threatening injuries. A passenger in the Saunder’s vehicle, Dylan J. Harnish, age 17, was not injured.

Paul Dietz was not injured in the crash, but a passenger, Linda Novak-Dietz, age 54, was transported by Tri-State Ambulance to Vernon Memorial Healthcare with non-life threatening injuries.

Assisting at the scene were members of Coon Creek Fire & Rescue, Westby-Christiana Fire Department, Westby First Responders, Westby Police Department and the Wisconsin State Patrol.

The accident remains under investigation by the Vernon County Sheriff’s Office
