The Vernon County Sheriff’s Department reported an UTV accident without injuries in Stoddard on Tuesday, Jan. 9.
Andrew G. Loomis, age 31 of La Crosse, was operating a 2017 Polaris side-by-side on the ice approximately 100 yards southwest of the Stoddard Municipal Boat Landing. Loomis crossed a pressure ridge on Running Slough where his UTV broke through the ice. Both Loomis and the vehicle went in the water, but Loomis was able to exit the water on his own. The UTV was completely submerged.
Loomis did not report any injuries and refused medical treatment at the scene.
Assisting at the scene were the Stoddard-Bergen Fire & Rescue Department, Tri-State Ambulance, and the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources.
The incident remains under investigation by the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources, and the Vernon County Sheriff’s Office.
