No injuries were reported, but a two-vehicle crash closed the west lane of Hwy. 14/61 at the intersection of Co. T in the town of Viroqua for two hours on Thursday, Feb. 1.

At about 5:50 p.m., Brian H. Beels, 43, of Spencer, was driving west on Hwy. 14/61 in a truck pulling an empty cattle trailer, when a truck operated by Elliott S. Haag, 25, of De Soto, pulled out from Co. T, striking Beels’ vehicle. Beels’ truck came to rest buried into the hillside, with the cattle trailer blocking both west lanes of traffic.

Beels and Haag were both wearing seat belts, and both men refused medical treatment. The west lane was closed for two hours while vehicles were removed and debris was cleared from the highway.

Assisting at the scene was the Viroqua Fire Department and Tri-State Ambulance.

The crash remains under investigation by the Vernon County Sheriff’s Office.
