Participation numbers are an issue that have plagued the Viroqua/Westby cooperative golf team for years, but Head Coach Heidi Hubatch is hoping the savvy six young women who make up the 2017 team can find the right magic to surprise the competition this season.

The team will be led by Brooke Knutson (Viroqua-senior) who received 2nd Team All-Coulee Conference honors last year. She will be joined by Ariana Valle (Westby-senior); Heaven Saunders (Westby-senior); April Roth (Westby-sophomore); Emilie Brose (Westby-freshman) and Alicia Stuber (Viroqua-freshman).

“Brooke and Ariana bring experience and will be great leaders. They will help to keep the entire team focused” Hubatch said.

The 2017 season will be another building year for the Viroqua/Westby cooperative team. Hubatch said the team has set several goals for the season including, to improve every day; to have fun working hard; and to build a solid team, with solid scores,.

Hubatch, the Viroqua High School Business Education/FBLA Adviser, isn’t new to the sport of golf. She has golfed since she was a teenager and has spent nine years coaching various aspects of the sport. She said the team will need to focus on skills and fundamentals each and every time they step on the course.

“The girls will be working hard to improve every match,” Hubatch said.

Hubatch expects Arcadia, G-E-T and Arcadia to all have solid seasons as they battle for the Coulee Conference crown.
