This Westby Area High School gymnastics team competed at G-E-T on Dec. 19, before the holiday break. GET/Mel-Min scored 118.925 to win the event over Westby who scored 104.375 points.

Head Coach Kara Timmel said GET/Mel-Min were tough competitors, but she was proud to see that the Westby girls had made improvements on things they’ve been working on in practice.

“We had a bit of a shaky start, but I can tell the girls are becoming more mentally tough because they turned it around after that and did some great work,” Timmel said.

GET/Mel-Min’s Sophie White won the All-Around with a score of 31.90, followed by teammates Lauren Koss second with a score of 30.60 and Helen Peterson placed third, 30.20. Westby’s Bekah Dwyer took fourth with a score of 28.525 and teammate Valeria Nussbaumer took fifth with a score of 27.250.

Timmel said the team has plenty to work on over the holiday break before returning to action at Holmen on Jan. 5. The Norse host a home meet on Thursday, Jan. 11.
