Building on the success of Western Technical College’s Cavalier Cupboard, the food pantry is now offering fresh produce packages for eligible recipients on the last Wednesday of every month during normal operating hours.
The food pantry, which began in 2014 and has served more than 2,000 students and their families, allows any Western student to take one or two bags of non-perishable food and hygiene items depending on household size. The fresh food, which includes items like potatoes, tomatoes and celery, will be available for any student who pre-registers at the Cupboard. A suggested recipe using the provided produce is also included in the package.
“Students need fresh food to remain active and healthy in school,” said Robert Schroeder, intern in the Cavalier Cupboard. “We hope this fresh produce package will help students who need it the most.”
The Cavalier Cupboard is on the second floor of the Integrated Technology Center, 325 N. Eighth St. Hours are 2 to 4 p.m. Tuesdays and 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Wednesdays.
