Lake monster on the prowl

This illuminated lake monster was seen traveling down Castle Rock Lake during the lighted boat parade on Saturday as part of the annual Waterfest celebration in New Lisbon.

Waterfest is coming back to Castle Rock Lake, it will be hosted by the Juneau County Economic Development Corporation and will include a boat parade, fireworks, an outdoor movie, a 5k run, a bicycle parade, live music, a beer and brat brunch, an award ceremony and much more. The event is sponsored by Lynxx Networks and Oakdale Electric Cooperative.

“There’s festivities all day at the castle rock county park,” said Juneau County Economic Development Corporation Assistant Director Tamaya Jo Loewe. “The boat parade is how it started 19 years ago… The other events now have kind of grown around it.”

Events begin Aug. 3 and end Aug. 5. Attendees can register their boats to participate in the parade. Admittance into Waterfest is free of charge.

“There’s usually a lot of boaters that kind of follow along with the parade,” Jo Loewe said.

Fireworks will be shot off from Castle Rock County Park for all to see.

Jo Loewe summarized the festivity as “a celebration of the lakes featuring the Venetian lights boat parade and firework display and there’s family friendly activities throughout the weekend.”

The Dirty Turtle Bar and Grill will host the awards ceremony.

Dinner will be available on board the Cruising Turtle boat for $25 as well as a cash bar. Seating is “very limited” and prospective attendees are encouraged to RSVP via email at jcedc@juneaucounty.com or phone at 608-427-2070.
