Center offers support for survivors of sexual abuse

  • 0

The Franciscan Spirituality Center offers a monthly group to support women who have experienced sexual abuse or assault in their quest for healing, peace and wholeness starting this September.

Imago Dei Women’s Group meets from 7 to 8:30 p.m. the third Wednesday of the month; the first meeting is Sept. 16. Facilitated by two survivors of sexual abuse, the group is not professional therapy or counseling, but rather a safe, confidential place to speak and be heard, whether the abuse is recent or from many years ago.

“While this program doesn’t have a religious focus, we decided to name it Imago Dei, or ‘image of God,’ because of the spiritual meaning behind those words. It means that there is inherent goodness and dignity in every woman, no matter what has happened to her,” said Audrey Quanrud, FSC director.

There is no cost to attend and no registration necessary. For more information, visit or call 608-791-5295. Subsequent meetings are Oct. 21, Nov. 18 and Dec. 16, 2015; and Jan. 20, Feb. 17, March 16, April 20 and May 18, 2016. It is not necessary to attend each session.

The Franciscan Spirituality Center is located at 920 Market St. in La Crosse, just west of Mayo Clinic Health System-Franciscan Healthcare and one block north of Viterbo University.
