Local students receive scholarships at CVTC

Chippewa Valley Technical College (CVTC) students received over 400 scholarships totaling nearly $300,000 during the 2020-21 academic year. Often donors create scholarship funds to memorialize a loved one, or support a cause, but it all comes down to making a difference in the lives of the recipients. Recipients and donors are annually recognized at a scholarship reception each spring, which was cancelled this year due to the pandemic.

Local students receiving scholarships included:

  • From Blair: Mark Veneziano, Karl & Vila Nygaard Memorial Nursing Scholarship — Continuing Student.
  • From Eleva: Garrett Miland, Jackson Electric Cooperative Scholarship; Heather Gibson, Julie Furst-Bowe Leadership Scholarship and The Jim & Jennifer Rooney Family Foundation General Scholarship.
  • From Fairchild: Gabriel Schnell, Xcel Energy Gas Utility Scholarship.
  • From Hillsboro: Abigail Nemec, Michelle Pinkston Memorial Scholarship; Brock Borchardt, Northwest Wisconsin Building Inspectors’ Association Endowment Scholarship and Steen Construction of Osseo Scholarship.
  • From La Farge: Makenzie Teague, CVTC Education Association Scholarship.
  • From Onalaska: Ethan Newman, I.B.E.W. Local 953-EPD Scholarship; Julia Devine, Diversity Achievement Scholarship.
  • From Osseo: Abigail Brandt, Edward H. Johnson Marketing Endowment Scholarship; Autumn Volbrecht, CVTC Education Association Scholarship; Barrett Boeckmann, Robert Straavaldson Memorial Endowment Scholarship and Xcel Energy Hvac Scholarship; Bruce Goplin, Chippewa Valley Home Builders’ Association Endowment Scholarship; Josie Zingshiem, Arthur Medtlie Memorial Endowment Scholarship; Stephanie Nelson, Robert Zimmerman Memorial Endowment Scholarship; Wyatt Mccune, CVTC Education Association Scholarship.
  • From Whitehall: Caleb Correa, Jerome Hedrington Memorial Criminal Justice Scholarship; Michael Poulos, Stuart T. Nesbit EPD Scholarship.
  • From Sparta: Rachel Hansen, Helen Baetke Rizzi Endowment Scholarship.
  • From Strum: Josie Zingshiem, Arthur Medtlie Memorial Endowment Scholarship; Miranda Erickson, Eau Claire Seymour Lions’ Club Scholarship.
  • From Tomah: Emily Moake, Delta Dental of Wisconsin Scholarship; Maci Betthauser, Northwest District Dental Society Scholarship and Wisconsin Dental Association Foundation Scholarship.
  • From Trempealeau: Matthew Harmes, Global Finishing Solutions Welding Scholarship and Richard Freeburg Honorary Welding Scholarship.
  • From Whitehall: Caleb Correa, Jerome Hedrington Memorial Criminal Justice Scholarship; Michael Poulos, Stuart T. Nesbit EPD Scholarship.

With over 115 programs offered both online and on-campus, Chippewa Valley Technical College delivers superior, progressive technical education which improves the lives of students, meets the workforce needs of the region, and strengthens the community. CVTC programs are designed with input of business and industry to prepare graduates for today’s jobs, with 95 percent employed within six months of graduation and associate degree graduates earning an average annual salary of $47,452.
