Marilyn Therese Conway, 85, passed away peacefully Friday, Jan. 12, 2018, at Bluffview Memory Care in Holmen.

She was born in St. Paul, Jan. 14, 1932, to Alphonse J. Sauer and Eleanor Freeman Sauer. After the family moved to Madison, Wis., Marilyn attended Edgewood High School and graduated in 1950. She is predeceased by her sister, Margaret Sauer Haack.

After Marilyn married Neil Michael Conway, they settled in Wausau, Wis., where they reared their three children, Anne (Michael) Metz of Oconomowoc, Wis., and Bonita Springs, Fla., Jeffrey (Lynn) Conway, of La Crosse and Mary (Michael) Eastman, of Clarksburg, Md. She is also survived by three grandchildren, Brendon Conway of La Crosse, Adam (Kelly) Conway of La Crescent, Minn., and Lauren Stewart of Shorewood, Wis.

Upon Neil’s retirement, they moved to Dresbach, Minn. Neil preceded Marilyn in death in 2013.

Marilyn was an exemplary homemaker and extraordinary cook who will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her. Her great passion, enduring dedication, and God-given talent was as an award-winning quilter. Her beautiful creations are displayed with pride in the homes of each of her children and grandchildren, wrapping them in blankets of love on cold nights.

Throughout their 62-year marriage, Marilyn and Neil traveled extensively and with a zest for adventure, from a wilderness camping trip at the fringe of the Arctic Circle to salt-water fishing excursions off the coast of Key West. She loved every minute.

A Mass of Christian burial will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 17, at Holy Cross Parish, 108 Washington, Dakota, Minn. Burial will be at Crucifixion Cemetery in La Crescent. Friends may visit the family from 10 a.m. until the time of the service Wednesday at the church.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be mailed to the Student Aid Grant Fund at Edgewood High School, 2219 Monroe St., Madison, WI 53711 (or visit, or to the donor’s charity of choice.
