A 55-year-old River Grove, Illinois, man died Saturday in a single-motorcycle crash in the township of Little Falls.

A motorcycle driven by Marek Surmacz was northbound on Highway 27 shortly before 5 p.m. when it began fishtailing and went onto the gravel shoulder, according to the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office. The motorcycle entered the east ditch and began to overturn.

Surmacz was ejected from the motorcycle, resulting in a fatal injury.

Assisting the Sheriff’s Office were the Cataract First Responders, Sparta Area Fire Department, Sparta Area Ambulance Service, Med-Link Air, Jackson County Sheriff’s Office and the Monroe County 911 Communications Center.

The Sheriff’s Office said speed appears to be a contributing factor, but the crash remains under investigation.
