The Karner Blue Butterfly race is preparing changes for the 2018 race Saturday, June 30.

Amanda Gunn, executive director of the Black River Falls Area Chamber of Commerce, said the 14th annual race will have a different route this year due to construction.

"This year all races will begin here at our Chamber offices, and we had to do a re-route of the half-marathon due to some road construction," she said.

The race, which is a fundraiser for the Chamber, will begin with the half-marathon at 7 a.m., the 5K and 10K races at 8 a.m. and the kids race at 9 a.m. The awards ceremony will be held near the finish line at 9:30 a.m.

Another change is the race will be held in conjunction with the city of Black River Falls' Festival in the Park rather than the Karner Blue Festival, Gunn said. The entity that puts on the Karner Blue Festival decided to host it a different weekend.

The Festival in the Parks starts at 2 p.m. and ends at midnight. Activities at the festival, which takes places at Lunda Park, include the Miss Black River Falls coronation, music, fireworks and a kickball tournament.

Gunn said her hope for the race is good weather − warm, but not extremely hot, and no heavy rain. The event is expected to attract more than 200 runners.

It's a nice event for all to attend, Gunn said.

"It’s just a fun event for families, and everybody seems to have a good time and always something to do afterward," she said.
