An April 10 article in the La Crosse Tribune reported that the Senate race for Tammy Baldwin’s seat may be the most expensive in history, and that is largely because of “unprecedented” money − more than double the amount spent on any other senate race − coming in from outside of Wisconsin to one of Baldwin’s Republican challengers, Kevin Nicholson. And much of that is from one donor, Illinois billionaire Richard Uihlein, who early on funded Political Action Committees which donated $3.5 million to Nicholson, and since has donated another million and a half. The billionaire Koch brothers have since funded more to Nicholson. Let’s face it, big money in advertising doesn’t always win elections, but it often or even usually does.

A billion dollars is a thousand million. If you had “just” a billion dollars, 5 million would be .5 cents out of a dollar. If people with that kind of money are able to influence American elections without blinking, your vote and democracy are dead. It’s controlled by billionaires.

And of course, in this kind of climate, Democrats try for the big money too, they have to, but generally they are outmatched by Republicans who want to keep the billionaires as their sponsors, and won’t do anything to antagonize them. It’s a pattern. Follow it, and you’ll see which is the billionaires’ party. Vote to revoke the 2010 Supreme Court decision Citizens United, which allowed massive amounts of money into politics.
