THE VILLAGES, Fla. — Jon Fortney, 68, a resident of the Village of Tall Trees in The Villages, died Tuesday, Oct. 3, 2017, after a very aggressive battle with cancer.
He was born April 22, 1949, in Viroqua, to Conrad and Sylvia Fortney. He is survived by his mother, Sylvia; his wife, Ginny Keating Fortney; brothers, Craig and Chris; and sister, Ann Reed (Craig Reed). Jon has nine children and six grandchildren, Amy Chamberlin, Wisconsin, Darren Fortney (wife, Jen), Kevin Fortney, Alaska, Ken Keating wife, Caroline, Luke Fortney wife, Mandy, Kirk Keating, Jacksonville, Fla., Ben Fortney wife, Gillian, Sarah Fortney, Scotland, and Kevin Keating, Atlanta, Ga.
Jon retired from Anheuser Busch in Baldwinsville, N.Y., and Cartersville, Ga., after a 22 year career as a brewing supervisor. He and his wife, Ginny, moved to The Villages in 2005. He was a dedicated volunteer for Operation Shoebox and picked up furniture for the Operation Shoebox thrift store and supported the troops in every way possible. Jon also worked as a starter on Bonifay Golf Course, during his 10 year employment with GMS. He was an avid golfer and football fan. He was the commissioner of the “Village People” fantasy football league. Enjoying friends and family were his favorite pastimes. Jon is a member of Hope Lutheran Church.
A celebration of life will be held at 3:30 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 29, at Hope Lutheran Church, corner of CR 466 & Morse Blvd., The Villages, with a reception in Hope Fellowship Hall immediately following the service.
