The Vernon County Board of Supervisors is trying something new this month. They will be holding an evening meeting in the county boardroom Tuesday, July 24, at 5:30.
Board Chairman Dennis Brault said he put the discussion item on the agenda for the Board’s June 5 meeting.
“We talked about trying it to get more public participation,” he said. “There was consensus to try it. I think it will work out well.”
Brault said in the past there had been issues for some County Board members who couldn’t drive at night. He noted it is the Board chair who decides the dates and times for the Board of Supervisors meetings.
Brault said in the future the County Board may hold an evening meeting once in a while during the summer. “Even if a meeting is 5:30 to 8:30, these days there is still light on the way home. We’ll give it a try. I wouldn’t say it would become common practice.”
Brault said the Vernon County Board holds seven meetings a year. In addition to July 24, Board meetings are scheduled for Sept. 18 and Nov. 13. He said the Board meetings are listed on the county’s website, along with committee meetings. Agendas can also be found there.
