Everyone is invited to an old-fashioned barn dance, Saturday, Oct. 20. This celebration of community will be held at the Brookwood Classic Gym with dinner served from 5-6 p.m., followed by music with Tor and Friends. From 7-10 p.m., nationally renowned dance caller, Sue Hulsether, will call dances including squares, contras and reels to the live music of Kickapoo Joy Juice. The entire event is free and no experience, partners or costumes are needed. Freewill donations will be accepted for local flood relief and recovery.

Hulsether, a full-time dance caller since 2003, is known for leading people in American folk traditions of dance and music throughout the Midwest. She will be teaching and calling dances for young and old to the music of Kickapoo Joy Juice with band members Jesse Downs, Liz Voz, Jane Keeley and David Gibbs.

The event is sponsored by the Ontario Community Club. “With all that we have been through with the recent flooding, this is a time to come together and celebrate community,” said club president Ron Campbell. “Everyone – young and old — is encouraged to attend.”

Campbell can be reached at 608-337-4393. Brookwood is located at 28861 State Hwy. 131 north of Ontario.
