The Viroqua Police and Fire departments are asking for the assistance of all home and business owners in the city regarding house numbers.

"Recently we have been noticing that homes and buildings are lacking house numbers," Viroqua Chief of Police Daron Jefson said in a press release. "This has affected our response time in getting to several incidents lately, including emergency personnel not being able to locate the address they were dispatched to."

Jefson said the police and fired departments are asking that all owners of property in the city inspect their homes and buildings to verify that the correct numbers are on the homes and buildings. According to city ordinance, these numbers must be near the front door of the buildings, 3 inches wide and 4 inches high, with colors that will plainly be seen at the street.

In the coming weeks, the police department will be verifying that the numbers are on all buildings and are visible from the street.

"It is very important to remember that if we need to find you in an emergency, we need your help in doing so," Jefson said.
