Jillian Weston

Viroqua's Jillian Weston competes in the 2018 WIAA State Cross County Meet, Saturday, Oct. 27.

The career of one of the most decorated athletes in the history of the Viroqua girls cross country program came to an end, Saturday, Oct. 27.

Jillian Weston, a Viroqua High School senior, competed at the Division 2 WIAA state meet held at The Ridges Golf Course in Wisconsin Rapids. It was the third time in her career that Weston has competed at the event.

Running in cool, cloudy and wet conditions, Weston posted a respectable time of time of 20.30 placing 45th in a field of 152 runners at the D-2 end of season meet.

Weston finished her career earning all-Coulee Conference honors all four years, VAS school record holder, co-captain and four-year team MVP.

“I am so proud of Jillian, not just for her accomplishments, but for the tremendous role model and teammate she has been over the past four years,” coach Scott Benzing said. “She has provided inspiration and encouragement to her teammates on a daily basis and has shown if you invest your time and energy into something, you can accomplish great things. One of the things that has impressed me most about Jillian has been her commitment to the team…she has made a tremendous impact on our team that will last for years to come.”

Leah Kravoletz (17:46) from Denmark won the individual D-2 championship and Dan Fayen (18:19) of G-E-T placed second individually. Fayen came up short in her attempt to win three consecutive state championships. Denmark won the D-2 team title.
