Westby Solvang Lodge met June 26 in the Westby Community Center with 47 members and guests in attendance. Guest included, Carmen Moe, and Forrest and Linda Dowling. The group set a goal to recruit 10 new members in 2018.

Business: Mary Daines was presented with a Recruitment Challenge Award and David Amundson received his Enamel Sports Medal. Helge Vestnes reported a Sons of Norway savings account just had another interest rate increase and Corky Olson said she will have US-Nordic “friendship flag pins” for sale soon. The nightly Pot ‘O Gold was won by Larry Leum. Lunch servers for the evening were Jerry and Kay Burke, along with Thor and Alice Thorson. Ruth Amundson asked the group a trivia question. “What product from the United States is banned in Norway?” The answer to the trivia question was Kraft Macaroni and Cheese.

Guest presenters: David Torgerson did a presentation of photos from Syttende Mai, and very old photos of weddings/funerals etc. in Norway, plus a short video of Viking history was shown and Stephanie Ludkas Soressi gave an interesting talk about and shared items from the Sami Culture. Soressi said the Sami Culture is very similar to the Native American People in America and she is actively studying with people from the Sami in Norway to learn even more about her ancestry. Her ancestry study lead her to her Sami roots.

The next meeting for the Westby Sons of Norway is a joint gathering with the Minnesota Spring Grove Sons of Norway on Thursday, July 12.
