Westby City Councilman Lyle Lund resigned as a representative for Wards 3 and 5 on Tuesday, Sept. 4.

Lund, who is in his 80s, opted to step down from the position to spend more time with his wife, Verda and their family. He has served multiple terms as a representative of the city and ran unopposed for most of them. For the past 13-plus years Lund has worked hard to keep city spending in check and wasn’t afraid to broach any subject if he thought it was being handled improperly.

During the last election in April 2017, Lund said, stretching the dollar has always been a tough row to hoe, but Westby has done a good job.

Lund is retired from Vernon Electric Cooperative and is also a member of the Westby American Legion.

A motion was made by Councilman Brad Mashak to reluctantly accept Lund’s resignation along with a heartfelt thank-you for his years of service to the city of Westby. The entire council wished him the best in his retirement.

Lund’s term expires in April 2019. The council has begun the process to fill the vacancy with another resident residing in Wards 3 or 5 for the remainder of the term.
