The Norse boys and girls cross country athletes traveled to Tomah for the Jesse Parker Timberwolf Classic on Tuesday, Oct. 3, before taking a break prior to the conference meet in BRF on Thursday, Oct. 14.

Head Coach Brian Huebner said Westby wanted a local meet the week of Homecoming for a change of pace that both the boys and the girls teams performed well at Tomah.

The Tomah race is held in honor of Jesse Parker, a Tomah cross country runner who passed away several years ago in an automobile accident while vacationing with his family out of state.

The Nose athletes also received a wonderful complement from Jesse Parker’s mother who was touched when Westby medalist’s all hugged her and her husband after receiving their medals.

“Our kids represent our community very well,” Huebner said.

The Tomah course is currently under renovation, which Huebner said slowed finishing times for some of the Westby athletes, with about 70-90 runners in each race. He said seniors, Julianne Call, and Elena Schmidt, ran strong races for the girls and Kooper Lipski and Griffin Grass had nice races for the boys.

Westby took over on the girls side winning the six-team field with 40 points. Julianne Call (20:32) finished third overall and first for the Norse. Rounding out the top seven for the Norse, Abbey Wedwick (21:00) fifth overall; Elena Schmidt (21:29) eighth; Sydney Sherry (21:47) 10th; Erinn Sebion (22:26) 14th; Lexi Crume (22: 38) 15th; and Valeria Nussbaumer (22:44) 17th.

Senior Hayden Fredrickson continues to run extremely strong taking home overall top honors for the boys with a time of 16:58.

Fredrickson was followed by John Lucas (19:01) 13th; Kade Sherry (19:14) 18th; Derek Helgerson (19:47) 27; Kooper Lispki (20:31) 42nd; Kin Hamilton (20:35) 43rd.

Westby travels to the Coulee Conference meet in BRF on Thursday, Oct. 14.
