Wrestling: John Lucas from Deanna

Westby's John Lucas won a 12-6 decision over Daniel Slattery (Gale-Ett.-Tremp./Melrose-Mind.) in action in Westby on Dec. 21.

On Thursday, Dec. 21, Westby hosted Coulee Conference leader G-E-T/Mel-Min where the Red Hawks left their mark with a 61-9 win.

Westby forfeited three matches at 195, 220 and 285 giving G-E-T an automatic 18 points. Conor Vatland was the only Westby wrestler to win by fall with a 1:53 pin over Devin McCoy. At 126 pounds, John Lucas earned Westby’s only other points with a 12-6 decision over Daniel Slattery.

In the match: 113, Colton Sime over Logan Turben (Dec 6-0); 120, Jack Marley over Dallas Geier (Fall 1:25); 126, Julian Purney over Mitchell McKittrick (Fall 1:47); 132, John Lucas (Westby) over Daniel Slattery (Dec 12-6); 138, Hunter Andersen over Austin Mowery (MD 10-1); 145, Bryce Blaken over Ryan Knight (Dec 6-5); 152, Jaden Anderson over Bjorn Leum (Fall 1:57); 160, William Johnson over Justin Erdman (Fall 4:45); 170, Conor Vatland over Devin McCoy (Fall 1:53); 182, Landon Lockington over Jack Lipski (Fall 4:16); 195, Bryce Burns winner (Westby forfeit) 220: Sam Jansen winner (Westby forfeit); 285, Josh Marciulionis winner (Westby forfeit); 106, Kohl Linberg over Trevor Lemke (Dec 10-5).

Rob Kirner the Westby Varsity Wrestling Head Coach said G-E-T has a full team, something many schools are not blessed with. The Norsemen are struggling to fill the upper weight slots, putting them at a disadvantage against full teams.

Westby participated in the La Crosse Center Bi-State Classic over the holiday break on Dec. 28-29.

They travel to Black River Falls on Jan. 5.
