La Crosse County’s family court commissioner is running for an open seat on the bench with the endorsement of the last judge to hold the office.
Gloria Doyle, the only candidate yet to register, said Monday she is running for the seat vacated by Judge Dale Pasell. Doyle plans to formally announce her campaign Thursday.
Pasell, who retired Nov. 21 after 15 years on the bench, is endorsing Doyle based on her experience as Family Court commissioner, a position she has held since 2006.
Doyle, 51, who is married to state Rep. Steve Doyle, D-Onalaska, was one of three finalists for an appointment to the circuit court in 2006 when Judge Dennis Montabon retired.
Candidates have until Jan. 6 to submit nomination forms. Voters will elect a new judge to a six-year term April 7.
Meanwhile, Gov. Scott Walker is expected to appoint an interim judge to fill the vacancy. Finalists for the job are former prosecutor Brian Barton, defense attorney Candice Tlustosch and Doyle.
The appointment is expected in the next two months.
