Two Onalaska schools have new administrators this year.
Eagle Bluff Elementary, which includes the Onalaska Kindergarten Center, has a new associate principal in Amy Russ, who took over for Charlie Ihle after he became activities director at Onalaska High School.
Russ comes to Eagle Bluff from St. Patrick School in Onalaska, where she served as principal.
Originally from Waukesha, Russ and her family moved to the area eight years ago for her husband’s work. She took a job as lead teacher at Sacred Heart in Cashton.
After moving on to the Sparta School District, where she taught at the elementary school level and completed her administrator and director of curriculum licensures, Russ took the St. Patrick position.
“That was wonderful,” she said. “I loved that job.”
The job at Eagle Bluff was one of only two for which she ever would have considered resigning her St. Patrick principal position, she said.
Her new duties at Eagle Bluff have kept her busy in these past few weeks. Russ said she’s enjoyed working with the staff at Eagle Buff. She shares responsibilities with Principal Todd Saner, splitting time between the elementary and kindergarten. As associate principal, Russ represents the first line of discipline for students and is responsible for paraprofessional staffers.
“It’s been absolutely wonderful,” she said. “Every day I learn something new.”
Russ said she has especially enjoyed with working with Saner and has benefited from his years of administrative experience.
“Amy was the right person because of her elementary teaching and leadership experience as well as her experience as an administrator,” Saner said. “She’s a quality, approachable person and someone people within our building will trust.”
With Russ leaving St. Patrick, Susan Amble has been tapped to take over as principal at St. Patrick, where she has taught since 2009.
Amble was appointed to the position of teacher-in-charge in August after Russ stepped down from the position, and she took over as principal Sept. 16.
Prior to coming to St. Patrick, Amble taught for five years at Divine Redeemer Catholic School in Colorado Springs, Co. She is a graduate of Winona State University (elementary education) and has completed Master’s Degree work at DePaul University.
