Historic Drugan’s

Our Breezy Past

One day, in 1970, the whispering winds of Trempealeau blew an idea at Kent and Donna Drugan. "Why don't you buy a supper club?" the winds murmured.

Well, okay, they decided, but a whirlwind of decisions followed. When? Where? How? After careful deliberation, the Drugan family of six uprooted and moved to Holmen becoming new neighbors to Burrow's Mobil Station, Al the Barber, and the Holmen Feed and Farms Supply at the corner of Main and Mill Streets. The long-standing Silver Dollar Saloon that stood on the corner was revamped and renovated and the green structure became "Drugan's Supper Club."

Business was swift and steady. Local residents showered the dining tables with joy and good cheer. Then one day, in 1973, a beacon of light north of Holmen shone brightly. "It's time you get your business up to par!" wailed the watchful winds.

So, Kent and Donna did. They built a new Drugan's Supper Club, adjacent to a pro-shop and nine beaming holes of golf, five miles north of Holmen. The Tabbert family had called the rolling fairways and greens "Castle Mound." That name remained when Drugan's took over the four-year-old facility in 1973.

Then the unrelenting winds blew again. "Grow" was their demand. Thousands of seeds, fertilizers, and hours of manpower later, the nine-hole golf course became an 18-hole, par 72 golf course. That was in 1981.

Since then, son Mike and his wife, Mary, have joined the ranks carrying on the four decade family tradition of providing caring service and hospitality to all who visit Drugan's Country Club.

Please stop by sometime. We'd love to serve you our old-fashioned way, with joy and good cheer.
