Onalaska High School's Hilltoppers show choir ended its competition season on a high note Saturday, winning grand champion honors at Holmen High School's annual Gathering of the Stars competition.

Onalaska's Hilltoppers also won the awards for best vocals and best band.

Two other area choirs were among the six finalists, with The Class Act from La Crosse Logan High School taking third and Tomah High School's Limited Edition taking sixth.

Other finalists, in order of finish, included De Pere High School's Jam Session, Sauk Prairie High School's Executive Session and South St. Paul's SouthSide Sensation.

Among all female choirs competing, Sauk Prairie's YTBN finished first, followed by Logan's Classy Ladies and West Salem High School's Vivace.

In the prep division, Onalaska's Express took first, followed by Young Americans from MFL MarMac High School and Spotlight Singers from Green Bay Southwest High School.

Holmen's competition was supposed to be the final event of the year for Logan, but last week it was decided to perform one more next weekend in Janesville.
