Even television's best sitcoms have low points in which the shows become borderline unwatchable. Many of us remember our initial skepticism of Season 1 of "Parks and Recreation," and the last season of "Scrubs" didn't exactly give the otherwise strong show a proper send-off. Still, without these valleys, we wouldn't be able to appreciate the joyous peaks sitcoms like these had to offer.
To celebrate the best of the best in TV sitcoms, PrettyFamous, an entertainment data site by Graphiq, ranked the seasons of TV viewers' favorite sitcoms from best to worst. To do this, PrettyFamous looked at all sitcoms with over 1,000 IMDb votes and ranked them according to their Smart Rating -- a weighted score out of 100 that takes into account a show's IMDb votes, IMDb rating and the number of Emmy awards won. Only shows that ran for at least two seasons were considered.
Once a top 50 was established, those shows were then analyzed by season. Each sitcom's seasons were then ranked from best to worst according to their Season Smart Rating, which is a weighted average of the median IMDb rating and median IMDb votes for all episodes in that season. Note that because the Season Smart Rating and Show Smart Rating are calculated differently, the scores can often be far apart.
From acclaimed classics like "Get Smart" and "I Love Lucy" to contemporary greats "Louie" and "Modern Family," here is how the viewers rank every season of the most beloved sitcoms.
Note: Ties between shows and seasons were broken on median IMDb votes. Descriptions for each show were sourced (with minor edits) from Gracenote.
