VIROQUA — The Historic Temple Theatre kicks off its 2018-19 performance season on Saturday, Sept. 22, with Hoven Droven, and the band brings something new to the Temple: rock arrangements of favorite Scandinavian folk songs.
Formed in 1989, Hoven Droven comes to Viroqua all the way from Sweden, and includes band members Bosse “Bo” Lindberg (guitar), Kjell-Erik Ericksson (fiddle), Björn Höglund (drums), Pedro Blom (bass), and Jens Comén (saxophone).
The band’s music demonstrates a deep understanding of the forms they celebrate and amplify, and has been called “a beautiful hugeness; this music eats conifer trees and granite boulders.”
Full of great vitality and joy, craftily combined with humor and whimsy, this band deals in dynamics. The pulse of the band’s music gives audiences the feeling of genuine Swedish folk music, even when they’re rocking out like crazy.
The show starts at 7 p.m., with doors open at 6.
Tickets for the concert, co-sponsored by Driftless Music Festival, are $20. The theater box office at 116 S. Main St. is open 3 to 6 p.m. Wednesday through Friday. Tickets can be purchased in person, by calling 608-606-2340 or at historictempletheatre.com.
