TOWN OF ALMA — Felony charges are pending against a Jackson County man who threatened to shoot sheriff’s deputies and used a child as a shield during negotiations before authorities arrested him, according to the Jackson County Sheriff’s Office.

Jackson County deputies on Monday assisted Chippewa County deputies searching at W10304 Kenny Road in the town of Alma for a stolen car.

Juan Aguilar, 44, pointed a rifle at deputies as they approached the house with a warrant. He refused to leave the house and threatened to shoot deputies, who learned there was a woman and young child inside.

After about an hour of negotiations, Aguilar emerged holding the child in his arms as a shield, according to the sheriff’s office.

He charged at deputies, who continued to negotiate until he released the child.

Deputies found the stolen car, guns and drug paraphernalia during a search of the property.

Aguilar faces charges of endangering public safety with the use of a dangerous weapon, obstructing an officer, child neglect, receiving stolen property and possession of drug paraphernalia.

Jolene Gadbois, 29, faces charges of obstructing an officer and child neglect.
