FRENCH ISLAND — Arthur C. Hauser, 91, of French Island passed away on Thursday, Oct. 20, 2011, at the Gundersen Lutheran Medical Center.
Art was born in La Crosse on Feb. 22, 1920, to LeRoy and Hattie (Gollnick) Hauser. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II, serving in North Africa and Italy, and was a long-time member of American Legion Post 417 of French Island. He was also awarded the Purple Heart for his service.
Art worked in construction for 38 years and worked on many buildings and other projects in the La Crosse area. He was a proud member of his union local for many years. In his free time, Art enjoyed ice fishing when he was younger, watching sports, and taking long walks.
He is survived by two sisters, Fern Hauser and Irene Hauser, both of La Crosse; three sisters-in-law, Mary Hauser, Frances Hauser, and Marilyn Hauser; and many nieces and nephews and their families.
Art was preceded in death by his parents; four sisters, Ruth Fix, Della (Adrian) Roroff, Myrtle (Fritz) Schomburg, and Cora (Arthur) Melby; and four brothers, Steve, Robert, Russell (Lorraine) and Ralph.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday, Oct. 24 at Olivet Lutheran Church, 2100 Bainbridge St., La Crosse. The Rev. David Baldukas will officiate. Burial with military honors will follow in French Island Cemetery, La Crosse. Friends may call from 10 a.m. until the time of service at the church on Monday.
