Frederick ‘Fred’ E. Rohrer, 96, of La Crosse passed away Wednesday, Sept. 12, 2018, at his home. He was born Oct. 20, 1921, to Frederick and Tillie (Pederson) Rohrer. Fred became a pilot in the Army Air Corps during World War II and flew B25 Bombers. On Dec. 20, 1941, Fred married Vivian Richmond and she preceded him in death Oct. 26, 2012. They celebrated 71 years of marriage.
Fred worked at the Cooler Company for 45 years and ended his career as a salesman for Independent Metals.
Fred was very involved at Trinity Lutheran Church and served on many community boards. He was active in scouting his whole life, earning the Silver Beaver and Lamb awards, and was proud to be the oldest scout in the Gateway Area Council.
He loved the outdoors and was an avid sportsman. Above all, he was a consummate family man and when you walked through his door you became family. Fred was a true gentlemen’s gentlemen.
Fred is survived by five children, Bonnie (Pat) Korish, Jim (Judy) Rohrer, Larry (Helen) Rohrer, Rod (Sandy) Rohrer, and John (Terri) Rohrer; 14 grandchildren, 31 great-grandchildren, and 10 great-great-grandchildren, and a sister, Marian Christianson.
In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by his parents; and two sisters, Helen and Vivian.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, Sept. 17, at Trinity Lutheran Church, 1010 Sill St., La Crosse. Pastor Roger Grow will officiate and burial with Military Honors will be in Oak Grove Cemetery. Family and friends may call at the church from 10 a.m. until time of service.
