CHASEBURG/GENOA — Gerald “Jer” J. Pedretti, 72, of Chaseburg, and formerly of Genoa passed away on Monday, Jan. 7, 2013, at Gundersen Lutheran Medical Center, La Crosse.
He was born Dec. 15, 1940, in La Crosse to Paul and Cecelia (Penchi) Pedretti. Jer was the fourth of seven siblings raised on a dairy farm in Genoa. He was the first in his family to pursue education beyond high school, attaining a BA and MS in mathematics from St. Mary’s College in Winona, Minn., and Florida State University. In 1969, he married Claire Alexander and they later divorced. When Jer retired, he moved back home to Wisconsin.
Jer was a high school math teacher his entire career. Passionate about education, he was demanding, but tried to make math fun for students. Jer taught the bulk of his career at Cambridge High School in Cambridge, Ohio, from 1973 to 1995. He also had very fond memories of the first school where he taught, St. George, in Evanston Ill., from 1962 until it closed in 1969. While in Ohio, he also worked as a Park Ranger several summers, and taught evening university classes for Ohio University.
Jer was an avid reader who liked crossword puzzles and Sudoku, walking, gardening, and crafts. He was known as a dedicated father, friend, and brother, and for his unique sense of humor. Jer will be greatly missed.
Survivors include two daughters, Stephanie (John Saunders) of Chicago, and Aimee of Portland, Ore.; a sister, Mary (Jim) Klum of Chaseburg; two brothers, Charles (Carol) of Naples, Fla., and Paul of Genoa; two sisters-in-law, Sandra of Viroqua, and Helen of Westby; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and three brothers, Ralph, Ronald and Edward.
A visitation beginning at 3:30 p.m. and concluding with a short prayer service at 5:30 p.m. will be today, Jan. 11, 2013, at Jandt-Fredrickson Funeral Home, (Woodruff Chapel), 4239 Mormon Coulee Rd., La Crosse.
