Hewelle Edwards, 82, passed away after a 13-year battle with the very ugly Alzheimer’s disease, Saturday, Feb. 3, 2018, at the Mayo Clinic Health System.
He was born in Yancey County, North Carolina, March 14, 1935, to George and Pearl (Wilson) Edwards. Hewelle served in the U.S. Navy during the Korean War. He later married Kathleen “Kathy” Ann Brower.
Hewelle enjoyed fishing, hunting, camping, cooking, gardening, traveling, playing euchre, casino trips, traditional country music, and sports of all kinds (especially the Packers and Brewers!).
He is survived by his wife, Kathy; his daughter, Cheryl (Richard) Paulson, Cottage Grove, Wis.; sisters Kay Edwards, De Pere, Wis., Brenda (Pete) Goodwin, Ashwaubenon, Wis., and Juanita Edwards, De Pere; brothers, Hiram Edwards, Burnsville, N.C., and Timothy Edwards, Salisbury, N.C.; three grandchildren, Craig (Bridget) Cuccia, Kimberly Cuccia, and Logan Paulson; and one great-grandson, Andrew Cuccia. He is also survived by many other family and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Harrison and Breece Edwards.
Memorial services with military honors will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 10, at the Dickinson Family Funeral Home, 1425 Jackson St., La Crosse. The Reverend Scott Skogen will officiate. Friends may visit with the family from 10 a.m. until time of services Saturday at the funeral home.
