Hildegard Siegler, 97, of La Crosse died peacefully Saturday, Feb. 4, 2012, at Hillview Health Care Center in La Crosse.

She was born on Nov. 10, 1914, in Milwaukee to Julius and Bertha (Bueschke) Tews, shortly after her family emigrated from the German-speaking area of Poland.

She was baptized by the pastor of Jerusalem Evangelical Lutheran Church in Milwaukee. The Christian Day School of that congregation also provided the beginning of her education. Her family followed the move of Snap on Tool Company, where her dad had found employment, to Kenosha, Wis., where Hildegard completed her education. The family became active in Friedens Evangelical Lutheran Church in Kenosha, where Hildegard and her sister sang in the choir and joined the Young People’s Society. There she met her future husband, the assistant pastor of the congregation. She was united in marriage to Pastor Reginald Siegler on Jan. 11, 1942. Together they followed calls to congregations in Madison, Rock Springs, Wis., and Bangor. Three children were born to the family. She was a wonderful wife, mother and grandmother, who brought much joy to her family.

Hildegard is survived by her husband The Rev. Reginald Siegler; a daughter, Dorothea (Joel) Buege of Crete, Ill.; a son, Richard (Marilyn) Siegler of Manitowoc, Wis.; and a daughter-in-law, Susan Siegler of La Crosse; 15 grandchildren; and 17 great-grandchildren.
